What We Do

On daily bases, there are reports of sexual abuses in news headlines. These sexual abuses is more rampant among female rural adolescent .The  rural girls are prone to these sexual predictors’ than their urban counterparts due to the high level of illiteracy and poverty in the villages. Rural children must therefore be protected from sexual predictors’ and harms.

To enable young girls create positive experience of their sexuality, there is need for the constant sex education. Sex  Education, is a broad term used  to describe the education of sexual anatomy ,sexual reproduction, sexual intercourse and other sexual behaviour.

Appropriate sex education among female rural adolescent will help reduce the risk of negative outcome from wrong sexual behaviours.

Before now, to talk about sex in the public was a taboo due to the facts that some parents felts when such issues  are being discussed, it exposes the child to danger and the child will want to practice it. Our parents did not understand the saying( IGNORANCE IS A DIEASES AND KNOWLEDGE IS POWER )

To increase the ability of  young woman in making  informed decision over  their life time, parents and guidance must understand that sex education saves their children from danger of abuse.Must abused children  finds it difficult to report the incident to their parents if they have never had pre-discussion  on sex

Molesting a child  will keep that child in pain for the rest of her life and therefore the adolescent girls should know the parts of her body that should not be torch by any body. They  are cases of children who are  being abused by their uncle or aunty in the guise of playing with them.

Sex education helps to create awareness on how to communicate and ask for help when they are cases of abuse. Not  only that the girl child  must develop skills on how to recognize tricks from sexual predictor and to resist them. Sometimes the tricks comes in the form of constant gift, playfully asking the adolescent to come and sit down on their laps etc.

This write up,  prepares a young girls to when, why and how  her period will come .According  to Wikipedia, Menstruation is the regular discharge of blood  and mucosal tissue from the inner lining of the uterus through the vagina. Studies shows that a woman average cycle is 28days and ovulation comes around the 14Th day. One will ask what is Ovulation?

This is when a mature egg is released from the ovary pushed down the fallopian tube and is available to be fertilized.

Creating positive sexual awareness among female rural adolescent will help them to debunk some wrong attitude and belief in relation to sex and sexuality.eg the idea that being sexually active makes a person attractive and mature.

Therefore, those who have been abused will really not want other to be abused.so we must all rise to our feet  and report all cases of sexual molestation around us to the nearest authority.

Contemporary society has challenges which hitherto, didn’t   exist before now.

For a young lady, to withstand these challenges and grow up in a way that will please God and satisfy societal norms and value, there is needs for her to be guided properly.

When a young lady is not guided properly, she is left to the wings and caprices of her peer pressure and societal influence. Agencies which should strengthen society moral fibre such as FAMILY, CHURCHES and SCHOOLS.Are sometimes overwhelmed by the contemporary societal challenges.

Parents are sometimes engaged in the quest of how to make ends meet. Many times, the adolescent girls are left under the care of the teachers and the church. They in the other way round are not properly motivated because of poor remuneration.

The church which should be the hope of last resort has been infiltrated by the strange doctrines. There is therefore for an overhaul in these agencies to adequately prepare the lady’s to face the challenges of contemporary society.

This seminar is aimed towards preparing the lady’s on how to withstand some of these challenges.

Who a girl child will be depends on the way she sees herself.

Self-conception is a key to how a lady projects herself. All ladies are created specially by God for a purpose.

Every lady therefore has potentials that must be tapped. Beauty they say, Is in the eye of the beholder.

For a lady to achieve her full potentials in life there is need for her to see herself in the right perspective.

A lady should understand the reason she was created for. Materialism and other physical things should not be a determinant of a lady self-worth.

A lady should be contented with anything she can afford reasonably. The beauty of a lady does not lie in the price of cloth she puts on, nor the make-up she wears.

A good feminine curves without an accompany good character will not bring out the beauty of a woman. The beauty of a woman is inherent in the heart. According to AUDREY HEPBURN;” The beauty of a woman is seen in her eye because that is the doorway to her heart”. The physical beauty fades away with time but inner beauty persists at all time. Lady should therefore strife towards achieving inner beauty and fulfilment .At this point, it will be important to highlight qualities that makes up the inner beauty of a lady.

I  PASSION;   This is like a wild fire that propels a lady into achieving any height in life. Passion keeps dream alive even when there are obstacles. Passion does not understand the language of poverty and lacks

Passion ignite interest .how passionate one is to a cause determines the extend of achievement. PASSIONATE PEOPLE ARE SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE. Negative aspect of passion can make one to go any length E.G co-habiting  with a man that  is not legally married to. Passion is a two edged sword that must be balanced on the altar of morality.

A young lady must acquire passion both for the things of God and her life endeavour,

2 DISGUISE;Ladies of this days disguises their shortcoming and weaknesses under the layers of make ups and indecent dressing. An ideal lady who understands the facts that she is made in the image of God does not wear make-up that makes her look like clown nor dresses indecently  like other people. An ideal lady understands her personality and self worth, and dresses to please God and her conscience . Ladies of less self esteem dresses to look like models or super star while others dresses to give the impression that they are from wealthy homes

A life of disguise can lure young girls into prostitution and crime in a bid to live the life they are disguising for.

Instead of looking up to another person while not look up to God and get directives.

No wonder they say; you are address the way you dress.

3 CHASING SHADOW;Alady who understands what she wants in life is focused, and directs all her efforts into pursuing her dreams. She does not indulge in anything that distracts her from chasing her dreams .she is not easily distracted by little things .Chasing shadows involves leaving your dreams for irrelevant things

Shadow, looks bigger and more appealing than the substance of life. Chasing shadows can consume any young lady

4.NOT EASILY DEFEATED; The challenges of life persist in all level of human development. A young lady should understand as long as there is life, they are bound to be challenges

Challenges in life is actually designed by God to strengthen and make us better people.

A right altitude to challenges will positioned us to the next level God has designed for us

The aim of the enemy(satan) is to discourage you and weigh you down by presenting  numerousproblem.you can actually turns the stone hauled at you into a building blooks

A young lady does not allow herself to be treated as if she or her time are anything less than valuable .she does not accept poor treatment from a man and she will make it clear from day one.

5. SELF CONFIDENCE/COURAGE: A young lady posses I can do altitude she does  not depend on any bodyfor her livelihood she generate her income no matter how small it is and live by it.it takes courage to say no to evils even in the time of needs it takes self confidence to retain your virginity even when all your peers  are losing theirs for a wrong reason.it takes courage to confront and report cases of abuse and rape in order to forestall future occurrence

Courage keeps us going even after series of mistake.

No generation can transcend into the future   without carrying the youths along. Any nation,

organization or church that attempts to move on without the youth will remain stagnant. Youths stand in the gap to take over from the old. Youth empowerment is an attitudinal, structural, and cultural process whereby young people gain the ability, authority and agency to make decisions and implement change in their own lives and the lives of other people, including youth and adults. The youth as agents of change in the society propels the community to growth in every facet of the economy.

When the youth are empowered it leads to high returns on investment in all the sectors of the economy.

There is this saying that an idle man is the devil workshop .Youth empowerment helps to eradicate crime. When the youths are not engaged meaningfully, they often channel their energy into unproductive ventures like crime.

In as much as unemployment is a global issue,  the facts still remain that when you empower one  youth, a generation has been empowered, Every youth has family members, friends and associates  and when youths are empowered it extents to all facets of the society. For  any meaningful development in a country or society there must be a sustained constant training and retraining that will exposing the youths to issues that affects their environment and encourages them to activity participate in creating positive changes in the community.

Youth empowerment in our church and the society strengthen the issues of insecurity. Youths are in a better position to combat the security challenges of the society, when they are empowered.

The youth can bring about active changes in the society when the lend their voice and compliment it with reasonable action.

Most of our youths have good ideas that should be groomed and encourage to turn around the society. When these ideas are not encourage, it will not bring out meaningful development

Youths must reach out to others to form a formidable force that will position them in the limelight .There is need to find out available market for whatsoever one wishes to sale or offer. Networking brings youth in contact with people who might be more experienced than them and thus give them the opportunities to learn more eg social media like facebook, twitter and linkedin.

Youth empowerment goes beyond the achievement of material wealth to accomplishment and self-pride in realizing one’s dream. There is needs  for youth to look out for venture that are not capital intensive like farming which also  can easily position them to attract loan.

Aside ventures that can easily attract soft loan, youths can equally be involved in transport business that entails higher purchase.

Youths must acquire skills of entrepreneurship if they are not employed. Business management  entails self-disciplined, sincerity, dedication and prayerfulness.

One early morning, in the serene and sleepy village of Amaekpu. There was commotion and pandemonium, women filled out in their large numbers bearing palm fronts and other leaves in demonstration against a certain man. The woman threaten to abandon their difference homes if their concern was not properly addressed.

The man at the middle of the chaos was an elderly native doctor who was believed to have super natural power and this provoke fear among the villagers. The old native doctors, decided to build his house directly adjacent to the village public female toilet since the village still practice OPEN DEFECATION. Women and girls of all works of life regularly visit there to answer the call of nature.

Unknowing to the innocent women who uses the toilet, the erotic native doctors mounted a secret camera in a way to have a complete view of the women while using the toilet. The clip became an object of sexual satisfaction between him and his amorous friends.

Trouble started when one of his friends got drunk and started revealing information to various women on the pattern of shaving of their private parts. The women in astonishment and embarrassment, demanded to know the source of his information, act of humiliation,  the women reported the matter to the leadership of the village women organization. He was promptly summon

by the entire women  and after an intense interrogation, he divulge the source of his information.

The women were overwhelmed by the suppose spiritual power of the native doctor and in awe, the pleaded with the men to intervene on their behalf. The mention of the native doctor name scare the men who kept on delaying the case and could not handle it well. In frustration, the women mobilized on that early morning and stormed the native doctors residence dropping  in their thousand the palm fronts and other leaves in his premises. The women bravely gave the man three days ultimatum to appear before them and answer charges levied against him.

On the expiration of the three days ultimatum, the notorious witch doctor vehemently refused to appear before the women instead he insisted that they should come and clear the mess they dumped in his premises or faced unpleasant  consequences .

In anger, the women in collaboration with women from other neighboring   villages matched down for the finanal  show down. On sighting the intimidating crowd, the abominable  native doctor took to his heels

The  uncontrollable crowd in the process brought down his building rubbish.

This is the power of collaboration. If all women will come together, hand in hand, all the unpleasant situation women are subject to  will be taking care off

 (5)                                                    CHILDREN AND WITCH BRANDING

Witchcraft is known to be as old as 40,000 years and is traced to the act of people worshiping nature.it is the oldest religion on earth and has been transferred from generation to generation.

Believe in witchcraft however have survived even till date in primitive societies. Because  of the poverty and ignorance in most Africa countries , many old superstition still survive till today.

Witchcraft is frequently used to explain away unpleasant circumstances such as sudden death, Miscarriages, illness, unfortunately, in such society women and children are mostly branded as witches.

Historically so many women and children has been stoned to death, burnt alive and even banished from the community. So many women and children have been intimidated and subdued for fear of being accused as witches.

In a world dominated by men, it is convenient to use ”witchcraft” as a tool to strengthen men’s control to women

In contemporary society, women are no longer confined in the house they now  meet the men in work places thereby reduces the influence of male dominance .This has given women a voice and seems to reduce the notion that every adverse situation is a wicked Act of a witch who must be a woman.

Pentecostalism in Africa has introduce another twist on the issue of Children accused of witchcraft.

These children are believed to have evil powers which they can use to destroy homes, bring about business failure, accident. Etc.

Pastors who are so desperate for fame and material wealth are now the people championing the accusation of children as witches. Many of these children are forced into prolong religious fasting some are flogged and tortured in a bid to extract false confession among the children who fails in these group are mainly domestics helps  who bears this brunt when the economic situation of the employers deteriorate and they become scape goat.

Most times, when people possess special, uncommon or unexplainable characters and attribute it is often misconstrued to witchcraft.

This Act of attributing every uncommon behaviours to witches is often propagated by self-styled pastors and preachers  in Nigeria, gullible and vulnerable parents and guidance are quick to toe the line of these pastors. The community will therefore not have any choice but to queue up in the same believe.

It is very painful how beautiful and innocent Children are stigmatized, abandoned and tortured by pastors and relatives who  are quick to brand them as witches. These tragedy is most common in the South South part of Nigeria, AkwaIbom and Cross River state precisely. It is difficult to phantom the offences these innocent children have committed .A closer look at all the children who are accused of being witches indicate that they are mainly children from poor homes. Is it now a crime to come from a poor home? Can’t children from rich homes equally be witches? Another question that might come to mind is why is this disastrous event peculiar to Cross River and AkwaIbomState? AkwaIbom and Cross River State are not the only state that we have  children from poor homes.

It is on record that more than 15,000 children have been displaced and some sent to early grave for the mere accusation of being witches.

Child traffickers and ritual killers have equally catch in on these children who are forced out of their homes on the allegation of being witch craft fall prey to human traffickers and ritual killers as they are not adequately protected by government.

Other Agencies in the society like Churches, Media houses and Movie industries that should discourage and preach against this ugly situation often times are involved in propagating it. The media and movie industries are in such sensational event to make more profits while the churches sees it as an avenue to enrich themselves.

Several movies even those produced by pastors are geared towards making people believe that children from poor homes in AkwaIbom State are witches.

Most children from poor homes in AkwaIbom and Cross River are given out as domestic helps in different parts of the country are most vulnerable to this accusation.

These young children, often times, cry continuously at night because they are missing their parents and as such run temperature. The notorious pastors and evangelist are quick to label such children as witches.

In spite of child Right Act which was signed into law in 2003,nothing much has been  done to alleviate the suffering faced by these children. All the right enshrined in the Act are still been denied of the children.

Parents should know that Children are gifts from God and they add no sorrow .We should learn how to love and protect them. The upbringing of every child is a responsibility that God has bestowed on every parents .And understand,  Witch Craft is an organization /Religion that are meant for Adult. It is a voluntary Organization. So it is wrong when you accuse your child of being a witch. Parents that brand their  children as witch, are also witch because those Children are their offspring. People should learn how to take responsibility for their failure and short coming.

Let us remind these self-styled pastors ;In( Mark chapt.9;14-29) how Jesus told His disciple to treat the issues of Evil SPIRIT .He said ( It is only through prayer).even if these children are indeed possess with Evil Spirit they should pray for them and not to condemned them to death

I plead with the Federal Government to pay more attention to the numerous problems facing these children and set up a Regulatory body that will monitor the activities  of this self-styled pastors  and  parents that are bent on wiping  out this generation by branding children witches.

My thanks goes to all Non-Governmental organizations, Individual, co-operate bodies. sincere Religious organization who has fought tirelessly to bring back hope  to children who has been victims of these STIGMATIZATION, ABANDONMENT, TORTURED,RAPE ETC.

Children should know they are created for a special purpose. Sometimes, the devil uses some people to pull you down. We all know the story of Joseph in the bible (Genesis chapt.37;24) .the good thing is he came from pit to palace. So as a child no matter what anybody is doing to pull you down remain focus have a direction and God will see you
